How will you react to trials and tribulations?
Does your pulse rate increase?
Do you fight or run?
David, in the 23rd Psalm, talks about being at peace, regardless of whether
he is in a pasture next to a stream or at a table of his enemies.
How did David get to this place in life?
No matter the circumstances, David remains calm. I have even heard about
people whose heart rates slow down in panic situations.
We have read and heard of people, that in the worst of situations, remain
calm. Sports commentators talk about being in a zone, where everything
around an athlete slows down and this calmness overwhelms the athlete. It
allows an athlete to react without wasting time thinking.
This is the same way I picture David as being. David never wasted time
thinking about whether God was with him or not, David knew God was
there.
That is the same way, we as Christians, are supposed to act. No matter
the circumstances, Christians should react to every situation, as if we
know the result before it happens, because Jesus and His power surrounds
us at all times. The Holy Spirit dwells inside of us at all times. God is watching
over us, at all times.
I can know and react the same in all circumstances. I can have the same
peace, that David had. I can have the same relaxing feeling, lying down by
a babbling brook, or walking in the midst, of life's deepest darkest valleys.
Take a few deep breaths. Let your breath out slowly and controlled. Look
around you. Allow, as David did, God's rod and staff to comfort you.
Father, most Holy God! Open our eyes so that we can see, we are in Your
presence, regardless of all the rocks and arrows that Satan uses against us.
Let us feel Your loving arms, as They hold us close and protect us. Let us
see the army of Angels that surround us, as we walk through this valley.
Father, fill our lives with Your Word, completely fill us with Your Spirit.
May our steps be Yours! May our words, be Your Words! May our hands,
do Your Work! May our eyes see others, as You see them! Amen!!!
