You can tell a lot about people, just by walking into their homes,
first impressions leave a lasting memory.
You may walk into a home and there are children's toys everywhere,
but you can also hear the laughter of the children while they are playing.
That will leave a lasting impression of a happy home, even if that is not
always the case with that home.
It used to be that almost every home you entered, had a big family
Bible. prominently displayed in the middle of a coffee table, right
in front of the sofa. Some were left open to favorite scriptures, some
were closed, and some even open to the pictures of the great artwork
from days gone by.
The love and respect people showed to these old Bibles, said a lot
about where their faith was. If there was a lot of dust on that Old Bible,
it meant that no one had paid any attention to it. Not even to dust it off
once in a while. You could make the assumption that the family hadn't
sat together on the sofa in quite a while, otherwise especially with
children, the Bible would have been used by little hands looking at the
pictures.
As I sit here writing this blog, I can remember times, when my Bible
sat and collected lots of dust. I would get lazy and quit reading God's
Word. Then my prayer life goes away, and I'm left to fight Satan, on my
own. Which, we all know is a battle, I can't win.
I was asked earlier today about, why I still use my Bible, it is easier and
faster to use the internet to find things in scripture.
My answer was: There is a comfort for me, holding onto a Bible. Holding
onto something with a little weight, a little thickness. It's like that feeling
of curling up in front of a fire with a good book, or in this case, The Good
Book, the Bible.
The Bible has the capabilities of being like an old familiar blanket or
an old familiar pillow. You can snuggle up with your Bible and feel the
loving arms of the Savior wrap around you, as you read His Word!
