I have been to a lot of different churches and denominations in my
lifetime. I have been in services, where it felt like a heavy blanket had
been thrown over the service. I have also been in services that were
so energized, you could feel the Holy Spirit walking in the doors.
I believe that the ultimate church service starts with the people. The
way we prepare for church has a profound effect on the service. If we
go to church expecting God to do great things, then we are energized,
as a congregation, before we walk in the doors. We have prepared
ourselves to be open to God's moving in the service.
If we come into church expecting nothing, we should not be surprised,
when that is what we get.
"Praise God from whom all blessings flow," the blessings in any
church service flows from the Thrown of God. How we approach that
Thrown during the week, affects the way the blessings flow during our
church service. God wants to bless us, but it is up to each of us, to be
open to God's blessings.
Jesus promised us, His Bride, that where ever two or three were
gathered together, in His name, that He would be in the midst of them.
It is up to each of us to realize that Jesus is walking in our churches.
He is walking up and down the aisles, as well as in between the rows.
He may be stepping on our toes, to make us pay attention, or He could
be passing by waiting for us to touch the hem of His garment and be
healed. This realization of Jesus presence doesn't allow us to just go
through the motions, of church. We should praise, Our Lord and Savior,
because He is there and worthy of our praise.
Each of us, have The Holy Spirit dwelling inside of us, if we are a
Christian. The Holy Spirit is our direct communication with God, The
Father. Our lives, the way we live, can affect our communication with
God. Just as a culvert can become blocked with debris and effect the
flow of water, so can our lives filled with sin affect the flow of
communication between the Holy Spirit, in us, and The Father. It is
up to each one of us to keep that communication flowing.
The other attribute of The Holy Spirit is in a group setting, as He
fills a room with His presence. The Upper Room in Acts is the first
of many experiences of this occurring, and this still happens today.
Some call it The Holy Spirit raining down on a congregation, a church
that has prepared in advance, for God's presence, is open and prepared
for The Holy Spirit to take over a service.
I have been in services, when the pastor has changed his sermon, as
The Holy Spirit led him to talk about something. I have been in services,
where people were coming forward, without the minister saying a thing.
Our church services are dependent on the preparedness of the people
to receive God's blessings, realizing that Jesus is present, and having
the lines of communication open between The Holy Spirit in us, and
the Thrown of God.
When we are prepared for great things, God provides great things!
