I, George William Akers, known to my friends as Bill, was raised in Taft, Ca. by my two loving parents George and Geraldine Akers. My two sisters, Debra & Shyrl, and I all graduated from Taft Union High School. I attended Ozark Bible College for one year before getting married to my lovely wife, Sandy, in 1980. We have a wonderful daughter, and an even more wonderful grand-daughter.
I spent 20 years in the oilfields, where I did everything from roustabout to head operator in a gas plant. I even spent a few years in the co-generation plants.
Then in 1995, after getting laid off in the oilfields, I went to truck driving school and learned how to move 80,000 lbs. down the highway. I have seen every state but Maine, in the lower 48 states. Every state has different scenery and different people. Truck driving is one of those jobs that you love or hate, there is no in between, and I love it. I have always enjoyed observing everything God has created.
My Christian walk started at the age of eight, when I was baptized in July of 1963. Since that time I have struggled with numerous addictions, but have always found my way back to my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. These struggles have made it hard on my marriage, and my wife and I were divorced for eight months, before getting re-married, in the early 90's.
Through all of this, God has used my weakness to bless others, as my wife and I have sang and helped with different recovery ministries. Currently my wife and I run an online ministry and outreach called Faith Akers Ministry. We use our Christian Blogs and the money from our Akers-Enterprises.com and its Christian Store to support this ministry as we help others learn about Jesus Christ and help with the needs of the less fortunate in Kern County and Bakersfield, Ca. I also help with Christian Truckers Network, when time allows. My wife also has a position as the graphic artist with our local Hope Center, a non-profit, faith based organization that feeds and clothes families in need. She uses her photography skills in designing their news letters, flyers, and other advertisements.
Thank you for all of your support, from reading our blogs, articles, and posts, to buying from our Akers-Enterprises Christian Store
