My wife and I drove down to Tarzana, Ca. yesterday, for my surgery,
on my knee. Today when we arrived at the surgery center at 6:00 am. we
find out that there has been a mistake made. Well, actually a few mistakes
made.
We found out that our Dr. had no surgeries on schedule for today. In
fact the only surgery that they had scheduled for my Dr. was cancelled
yesterday, and that surgery was for a shoulder.
Secondly nobody had bothered to tell the patient, that would be me,
that the surgery was cancelled.
I know it wasn't the Dr. at fault, scheduling and appointment are some
one else's job. Especially when, for your patients convenience, a Dr.
runs three offices, two on opposite sides of LA and one in Bakersfield.
He comes up to Bakersfield one day a week and uses the surgery center
in Tarzana on Fridays when needed.
I realize that we are all human and we all make mistakes, that is a part
of life. I also realize that I make a lot of mistakes myself. All of these
mistakes lead to frustration and anger sometimes.
There is a process that all of us go through when faced with any kind
of challenge. We prepare ourselves physically, mentally and emotionally
to face these challenges.
It doesn't matter whether it is a sport, a surgery, a performance, a speech
or any other stressful situation, our bodies go through changes to handle
those challenges. Our focus changes, the adrenaline starts to flow, we
invision all the situations that might occur, but all of these changes are in
anticipation of something happening.
When that changes, we get frustrated and angry, because all of that
emotion and adrenaline has to go somewhere. As a Christian, this
becomes even more difficult, because the world is watching our reaction.
We, as the Ambassadors for Christ, are supposed to put ourselves aside
and represent Christ in all we do.
How we handle our frustration and anger, is a direct reflection on
our Lord and Master, Jesus Christ. Jesus does not expect us to be door
mats, but He does expect us to follow His leading. This is really hard to
do, when you would love to strike out at someone or something.
This is where meditating on God's word, and alone time come into
play. It is a perfect time to learn to relax in God's arms. Allow Him to
calm us down. Allow Him to hold us. Allow ourselves to cry out our
rage. Allow ourselves to scream. This time alone with God is a time
of complete honesty. Sometimes we wear our facade not only in public,
but our facade invades our private time, our devotional and meditation
time with God.
This is a great time to let, our hair down, and just be us, with the
God that created us. After all who knows how to calm us down
better than Him.
