Learning from Cats and Children

There is so much that can be learned from watching cats and children.
There is a constant Christian lesson being taught to us, that most of us
are to blind to see.
I believe God, before he created man, created everything else, as a
living lesson to mankind. Jesus refers to this lesson when he uses the
birds and the flowers as illustrations of how God cares for us. Flowers
don't dress themselves and yet they are one of the most photographed
and painted things on the planet, because of their beauty and color.
I strive to learn from God's creation, which brings me back to cats
and children.
Cats are fascinating to watch, regardless of whether you observe a
house cat or any of the big cats. Cats take the time to play every day.
we may look at their play as a learning process, but to them its just fun.
The old saying is curiosity killed the cat, and that may be true, but there
isn't anything a cat won't explore. If there's a hole they have to look,
if it moves, it has to be chased.
Of course children are much the same, Jesus used them as a lesson for
adults also. Children have a natural trust that everything is OK. They
believe much more than us, more civilized adults. I remember being on a
roof with my dad, when I was about six years old. My uncle was helping
us put on shingles, and I decided I wanted down. I watched as my dad got
down off the roof and I wanted to be with my dad. My dad held his arms
up towards me and I jumped, knowing he would catch me.
As adults, we need to learn to trust and play with all the gusto of cats
and children. Even in our jobs, we need to learn to have fun, and like
Mary Poppins to whistle while we work. To be able to turn work into
a game, a learning experience, every day.
We as adults have a lot to learn from the nature that surrounds us.
The really bad part is, we used to have the trust of a child, the ability
to have fun and make everything a learning experience, but somewhere
we lost it.
God didn't change. We did! We need to fix that!
