Growing Sin

Sin grows and multiplies faster than Christianity! It's a truth that Our Lord was
well aware of, in fact, Jesus in a parable talked about weeds growing in a grain
field. The farmer realized that to weed the crop would also uproot the grain, so
the farmer waited until the harvest to separate the weeds from the grain.
We see this on a daily basis, but I think we turn a blind eye to it, most of the
time. Sin grows very rapidly, once it has a foothold. A person can tell a lie, which
produces another lie, as the lie grows, it begins to take on a life of its own.
We have seen these lies erase great careers, coaches, professors, politicians,
friends and families, have all been touched by lies growing out of control. In fact
the person that started the lie, actually tells it so often that they begin to believe
their own lie, as truth.
Once we start lying, it begins to affect other areas of our lives. We can begin to
live another lifestyle, far removed from truth and reality. We have seen this with
Madoff, and all of these other Ponzi schemes that keep happening in our society.
The same is true for any addiction from drugs to cigarettes, the addict will start
telling lies soon after they start their addiction, until they can't hide it anymore.
How many times have we heard, I can stop whenever I want to. That's a great line,
until the addict tries to stop, then it slaps them in the face.
Christianity takes time, it grows as the Christian grows. Baptism is just the
beginning, as we grow in Christ, as we grow in God's Word, we not only start
to grow, but we also turn into a fruit bearing vine. Jesus provides everything we
need to grow, He even prunes and harvests the fruit from our labor.
As mature Christians, it is our obligation to not only produce fruit for God's
Kingdom, but to also plant seeds and multiply more vines for The Master.
We can choose to grow sin, which multiplies and grows rapidly, but is burned
along with everything else, that is not part of God's Kingdom.
Or we can slowly grow in God's fertile ground, where our roots grow deep,
our vines become weighted down, with the fruits of our labor. The Master can
harvest and plant more seeds because of what we produce for His Kingdom.
