Addiction

Addiction is something I deal with on a daily basis. Every time I
look in the mirror I see an addict looking back at me.
My name is Bill Akers, I am a Christian that struggles with sexual
addiction. I used to say this at meetings every week. My addiction,
and all addictions are a driving force for an addict. You eventually
get to a point to where your addiction is all you think about. For me,
and many others, God is the only thing that keeps us sober. Sobriety
starts off being counted in minutes, then hours, then months, then
years. You can go for years without giving in to your addiction, then
when you fall, it comes back stronger than ever.
I don't care what the addiction is, alcohol, cigarettes, coffee, drugs,
or like me a sexual addiction, when you fall off the wagon, you fall
hard and fast. I have fallen off the wagon a few times in my life time.
Luckily for me I have a Savior that loves me unconditionally and the
support of a wife and family, that loves me enough to encourage me
to get help.
What triggered this blog today, was reading about Trace Adkins and
his and his recent relapse with alcoholism, which he is currently in
re-hab for.
These various addictions, involve every family in America. We all
know someone or love someone that struggles with addiction. This
is a growing epidemic, in our society. It also becomes generational,
not necessarily because of genetics, but because if my parents can do
it, why can't I mentality.
The Bible tells us that sin carries across, three to four generations.
It takes someone to break the cycle of addiction.
I pray that someone is you!
