You decide what you want to believe and not believe. Every decision that we
make has a profound affect on every other decision that we make. In other words,
one decision builds on another. Some of our decisions are foundational and will
affect how we build our lives. Some decisions are minor, like a non-load bearing
wall or a fence, they look nice, but have no effect on the structure.
Our basic beliefs in God and family, are foundational in the structure of our
lives. These are what we build our home on, our lives on.
Jesus tells a story about two homes, one is built on sand and collapses. Our
beliefs, not what we say, but what we actually believe has a bearing on how well
we stand up. We get to decide, how big our God is. If we only allow God into the
minor decisions of our lives, then our God is not big enough to help us through
the tornadoes and hurricanes of our lives. We have decided to build our lives
on a shifting surface, when the storms of life come, our house will fall. God was
not allowed to be an integral part of our lives.
The other house, that Jesus talks about was built on rock. It could withstand the
worst of storms and still stand. If we have built our home on the greatness of God.
If we have allowed God to handle both the big and small things that life can throw
at us, then our God and our faith in God have been strengthened by the storms we
have faced in life. Our foundation has cured and grows steadily stronger as time
goes on.
Our faith has grown from a mustard seed into a beautiful tree, producing seeds
for others to start building their God foundation on. The Church is one foundation
made stronger or weaker by the foundations of the families that are a part of The
Church. The bigger part God plays in our families, the stronger God is allowed
to be in our lives, the stronger The Church, that Jesus Christ started, can become
in our society, in our world.
God hasn't changed, He is still all knowing and all powerful. How much we let
God do in our daily lives has changed. Our choices make God weak or strong, in
our lives. Our choices, build our homes and church, on shifting sand or The Rock
That is Jesus Christ.
