Patience has been lost in our modern society. People pass you in a car, then cut
back in front of you, simply to make the next right turn by applying their brakes,
causing you to apply yours.
Wouldn't it have been simpler to just stay behind you?
As a truck driver I saw this on a daily basis. People in such a hurry that they
lose sight of the objective. The objective should always be to get to your
destination safely.
We have become a society of hurry-up, we have forgotten how to relax and
enjoy life. We will jump from website to website striving to get the most
information in the shortest amour of time.
God understood that we needed a day of rest. God provided that day with the
Sabbath. A day of no work, where families spent time together, every week. This
day was used for story telling, reading, a time for enjoying each other. We, in our
busy society have lost the ability to relax and be patient.
Find a day each week, to relax, and enjoy each other. We need to put up our
electronics, especially our phones, and sit and enjoy each other. This became
very apparent to me last month. I went on a retreat with other Christian men.
Some of them brought their electronics, but there was no reception on the
mountain. We slowed our lives down for a weekend, and enjoyed stories and
conversations with each other. We actually talked instead of looking at a screen.
We actually looked someone in the eyes and had honest conversation.
I know that our lives are busy, but for one day a week, can't we go back to
simpler times. God provided us with a day of rest for our benefit, not His.
