The age old question is does God favor men over women? I have heard
many discussions and talks on this subject, usually by men, because men
are the predominant sex of preachers in the U.S. anyway.
God created Eve from the rib of Adam, she was equal to Adam, side by
side with Adam. Yes, men are physically stronger than women, but women
are emotionally and pain threshold stronger than men. This is most evident
when it comes to illness or injury. A women still takes care of her household,
while a man lies sick in bed.
While the Bible covers the churches history, it is also true that without
certain women playing a strong role in The Old and New Testament the
Jews and the Christians would not have survived.
There are two prophetesses, obviously picked by God that come to mind.
Deborah in the Old Testament was the wife of Lappidoth, but she was
chosen by God as the Prophet , not her husband. Deborah was not only a
prophet of God, but also one of the Judges that ruled over Israel, both men
and women. The other prophetess was Anna, she to was a married women,
a widow by the time Jesus was taken to the Temple to be dedicated. She was
chosen over men to be a Prophet of God. God looks at the heart and choses
His Prophets, not at the gender, though there are many that think that.
Esther was chosen Queen for her beauty, but was used by God because
she had the heart to save her people. We, in modern times have no idea,
how much courage it took to go before a King that held your life or death
in His hands. Esther could have been killed immediately, because she was
not summoned before the King, but the king not only saved her, but ended
up saving the People of Israel.
Even with Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, before Jesus ministry started
Joseph was all ready out of the picture. Whether he died or not is not even
talked about in scripture, Mary, is the parent that is always talked about in
Jesus life. God being God could have chosen Joseph to live and Mary be
gone from Jesus life, but that was not God's choice for His Son.
You may have to look harder for the women that God chose, but they
are there. In both the Old and New Testament God used women in certain
cases over men. I believe that has to do with the heart He found in these
women. God does not favor one sex over the other, God made them equal
side by side.
