I lost something the other day. Most people wouldn't think anything about it, but
it was precious to me, because my wife bought it for me. I am sure this item cost less
than 20 dollars, but the giver, gave it value.
My wife bought me a big purple insulated coffee mug, while I was on the road,
driving a truck, cross country. I would make ice coffee in the morning, and add water
to the ice thru the day. Every time I took a drink, I was reminded of how much my
wife loved me.
Since my injury, I have still taken this mug with me in the car. It didn't matter, Dr.
appointment, M.R.I., surgery, therapy, the cup and my wife have been constant
companions.
The other day, my wife and I, after therapy, went for a walk in our local mall. We
walked from one end to the other, past almost every store, buying a few things along
the way. Towards the end of our shopping trip, I realized that my cup wasn't with me
anymore. I went back through the mall searching for my purple coffee mug. I looked
everywhere, in every store that we shopped at. I still didn't find it. I had lost a part of
me, that my wife had given me.
I know that we can replace this mug, but it got me to thinking.
When we lose the companionship of God, the Holy Spirit working in and on our
lives. Do we search all over for it, or do we just get used to it not being around. In
the case of my mug, I miss it and would give anything to have it back. Even more so
the active Holy Spirit in my life. Jesus told a story about a lost pearl, it is called the
pearl of great price. The pearls value, is monetary. The loss, life changing.
Today, as we go through our daily lives, we need to make sure our
companion, The Holy Spirit, is alive and active in our lives. The value
of the Holy Spirit is priceless. The loss of the Holy Spirit being active
in our lives, life changing.
