Listening requires time. Listening requires us to keep our mind open and our mouth
shut, and some of us have trouble doing two things at once.
When we are listening to our spouse, we should focus on what they are saying,
and not be thinking of ways to fix it, or offering advice. My wife will tell you, I am
not a good listener. I am still working on it after almost 33 yrs. A lot of times we
need to just vent, take a lesson from counselors and psychiatrists, sit and listen to
what people have to say.
We have the same problem at church, putting away all our toys and totally
devoting this time to God. We wouldn't do, what a lot of us do in church, if God
were standing in front of us. We forget that God is there. Jesus tells us, that where
ever two or three are gathered together, there am I in the midst of them. Our Lord
and Savior, Jesus Christ is in our meetings. He is alive and well and walking our
isles and passing in front of us, at every service. I think we forget that.
Our minds have been deadened to the truth, through our sins and distractions,
we treat church like just another meeting, instead of being Face to Face with the
All Mighty. The same holds true for all of our Christian meetings, care groups,
youth rallies, even two or three Christians getting together to help someone, Jesus
is there.
Jesus is present in our homes, The Holy Spirit is present in each Christian, but
when the count is more than one, Jesus is there also. I know I don't act that way
sometimes and I know I am not alone. Satan creeps into our day to day lives, so
subtly that we don't even know he is there. Jesus, stands at the door and knocks,
because Satan has slowly taken over our Christian homes.
The Holy Spirit and Jesus, have work for us to do, but we aren't listening to
the call anymore. I recently read a testimony from a man, that had just left a prayer
meeting at church. He requested that God would lead him where God wanted
him to go. As the man was driving home, he felt the nudge of the Holy Spirit
to stop and buy some milk, so the man bought a gallon of milk. Next he felt a nudge
to turn down a specific street and stop at a certain location. The man did as he felt
the Lord leading him to do. He felt the leading of the Spirit to knock on a certain
door, so he knocked, a man came to the door and started crying when he saw the
jug of milk. The man of the house said that bills had recently come due and had
been paid but that left them without groceries or milk for the baby. About that
time a mother and a crying baby walked by. The lady wanted to know if the man at
the door was the angel they had been praying for. This Angel gave the man the
milk, and opened up his wallet and gave the family some money to tied them over.
Are you that Angel, God is waiting to use. Are you listening when He calls?
