I just got done with a nuclear stress test, and it got me to thinking about, how
stressed out we can get just sitting down. I realize a lot of us have sit down jobs
which are very stressful and constant pressure.
It doesn't matter if it's in a office, driving a truck, or for some of us, just sitting
at home doing our job. The stresses can come from anywhere at any time, during
our day. The days are always different, one day it could be phone call interruptions,
the next day your boss puts another pile of papers on your desk, the next a problem
at home.
For truck drivers, even though we are seeing the countryside, we are
moving 80,000 lbs. of product down a highway at 70 mph. with cars darting in
and out of our mirrors and windows. Knowing it will take us three football fields
to get stopped, we leave room in front of us for safety, and cars think it's for them
to dart in and out in front of us. To add to that stress, a dispatcher wanting to know
your ETA to deliver.
We pay our bills and handle personal business, all setting down. Relaxing is a
luxury, that almost never, is not interrupted. God rested from creating everything.
We need to take the time to do the same.
We need to take family time, without the distractions of the phone or computers,
really be able to concentrate on your spouse and your children, uninterrupted. I
understand that sick family and older family members might need us sometimes,
but make sure to cut out private time for family. Your children and your wife will
appreciate the effort that you put in for these activities.
Don't forget to carve out time, for just you and your spouse. My wife and I even
picked out a place in town to stay at, in case there was an emergency. Find a room
with a double jacuzzi tub and a sitting room and bedroom. My wife and I found
such a place in our town for less than 100 dollars, in walking distance to a mall
and theater. My advice is to check places out, before your planned get away, this
way there are no surprises.
God directed His people to rest one day a week. I think we forget that, at times,
to the detriment of our spouse and children. Have fun, enjoy each other. The time
to do that, will pass quicker than you think.
