Respect for God

Reverence for God, Fear of God, Respect of God, these are all important aspects
of our worship to God. We don't normally have a problem with God is Love, or
God as a Father figure, those come easy for us. Somewhere along the line, we have
lost that healthy respect for all that God is capable of.
JHVH added to vowels of Adonai are where we get the name Jehovah for God.
יְהֹוָהis the Hebrew spelling of YHWH which when added to the vowels
of Adonai give us the name Yehowah or Yahweh.
The Hebrews held the name of God in such reverence that the actual
spelling of God's name has been lost. This name was only used once a year, in The
Holy of Holies by the High Priest. We, as Christians have lost much of that respect
for God.
This healthy respect of God, is a good form of worship. David talked to God as
a friend, but also realized and respected the sovereignty of God. As Americans, we
have trouble with the relationship descriptions used in scripture, Master-slave,
King-servant, Shepherd-sheep. We have fought and had wars over these very terms,
but that is our position with God. We should learn to embrace these terms, learn
to be just as joyful with these terms as we are with child, heir, brother or sister,
or bride.
When you read the Old Testament, you can see the respect and fear they have of
God. The other thing we notice is that when Israel became comfortable in their
relationship to God, they would fall into the bondage of sin, and bondage to
other countries.
The USA was founded on God's principles, on God's Laws, we, as Christians,
have failed to hold onto those founding principles, and allowed the Humanists,
and the Atheists to take over our schools and college campuses. The Ivy League
colleges were all started as Christian institutions, now they teach against the things
they were founded on. USC was started as a Methodist University and did not sever
its religious ties until 1952
I know the answer is Jesus. WE NEED GOD IN AMERICA, AGAIN!
