Getting Older

I am 59, at least until November, as I get older, the more vivid my
memories become. Every time a high school friend dies, my memory
of them and what we use to do comes to the front of my consciousness.
It is like watching old movies in my mind. It has always amazed me
the way our minds work. They are one of the most amazing things that
God ever created. Every mind is different, I can remember trivial things
and pull them up quickly, someone else may be able to recall names,
someone else may be able to do complex equations in their mind.
God created each one of us, with unique minds, with unique sensors,
with unique thinking processes. Our minds even have the capabilities
to re-route around damaged areas in certain instances. Everything that
we have ever read, seen, touched, smelled, felt or tasted is capable of
being recalled by our brains.
This is an important tool to use in our endeavor to help others find,
Jesus Christ. The more we can empathize with someone, the closer our
relationship becomes with that person. Our relationships are an integral
part of Christian brotherhood. There was an old chorus that a church I
attended closed every service with, one of the lines was, "blest be the
tie that binds our hearts in Christian love."
We, in this day and age, tend to stay away from deep, meaningful
relationships. We can see this in the lack of commitment in our marriages,
our jobs, our friendships, our interactions with others. The more physical,
mental, and emotional touching we have with each other, the greater our
investment in that relationship becomes.
This isn't true just in dating, but in every relationship that we have.
The reason I have such vivid memories from high school is the amount
of time, energy, and personal contact that I had with these people. The
same should be true with our Christian brothers and sisters, regardless
of our denominational differences.
We need to once again be the people that others envy. We need to
stand out in the crowd, not become a part of it. Christ's attraction to the
world, was His difference from everything else around Him. The early
church drew people like a magnet, because they were different than
any other religion at that time.
We need to be different in our Christian love, than the world sees
any where else in our society, if we are going to be the magnets for
Jesus Christ, that the early church was. We need to attract new
believers everyday. The only way to do that, is to become active in
their lives.
Jesus went out and was active in the community. The early church
was active in their community. We have to be an active part of our
community. We have to step out in faith, show and tell this world,
that we are different. Why you ask?
Because your the only Jesus, some will ever see!
