a rain cloud over their head?
Have you ever felt that way?
I have, many times in my life. In '08 I went through a dark battle of
depression. Our family had lost ten relatives in two years, including my wife
losing grand-father, grand-mother and cousin and I my grand-mother and my
Dad. It took six months of therapy for me to be able to function again.
I know that all of us go through highs and lows in life. It is just a part of
living on this earth, but I have always found comfort in the Bible. We read
about people that are high on life, like David dancing in front of The Ark of
the Covenant. As well as people that are at their lowest lows, as when David
was told "Thou art the man!
Psalms covers every aspect of life, from the highest high, to the lowest lows.
David wrote Psalms for all occasions. My favorite Psalm is the 23rd, but when
I'm down I read Psalm 88. Psalms 88 is a Psalm written in the midst of
depression, you can see it in the words, but you can also feel it as you read.
For me, it is a comfort to know that others have walked before me and made
it through to the other side.
Psalms is a book for all occasions, happy, depressed, thoughtful, mournful,
and thankful. David, a man after God's own heart, was a human being, just
like you and I. He went from tending sheep to being the King of Israel. He
went from fighting a lion and a bear to fighting giants. He also went from
arrogant and proud to laying prostrate on the floor praying to God for
forgiveness.
There is a song I sing, when my days are dark, Praise the Lord, it talks
about trowing off the chains that bind you, so that you can praise the Lord,
because our God inhabits praise.
Maybe you are having one of those days, today. If you are, I would love
to pray for you. E-mail me at akers-enterprises@att.net
