Athletic Christian

Athletic Christians are popping up all over the place. It's a trend
that is growing, and I, for one, am glad to see it. It's about time that
Christianity came out of the closet.
You can't read Paul's writings without realizing that Paul was an
athlete of of some kind. He talks about keeping our eye on the mark,
finish the race, and many other things, in his letters. Paul's athletic
ability is never talked about, but his references to sports, make it very
clear that Paul was a physical person. Just to have the musculature to
withstand all of the punishment he took after becoming a Christian,
shows us that Paul was not average. Most of the punishments Paul
endured for Christ, killed people.
As Christians, we should be proud of our Christian athletes, they
carry a heavier cross than most of us, just because of the notoriety that
comes in our 24/7 news cycle. I ask that we all pray for our Christian
athletes.
We also know the burden that these athletes carry, as the skeptics
watch for a chink in their armor of Christ.
We, as Christians, also need to realize that we are in a contest for
our souls. We have Satan on one side and Christ on the other, it is up
to us on a daily basis to chose which master we run to. Their is no
middle ground, there is no demilitarized zone. This battle for our soul
rages on 24/7, even while we are sleeping, there are angels watching
over us and fighting for us.
Just as Peter sank, when he took his eyes off of Christ, we too will
find ourselves straying away from Christ, when we lose sight of our
target, Jesus Christ.
