Things We Forget

Sometimes we forget that God's Word was written with us in mind.
I've read a lot lately about how the Bible was written for a different
time and place, especially where it comes to slavery and women.
The Bible was written for the ages, the rules that apply are still
pertinent in our world today. The Bible was not written only for us, in
the USA, but to be a light to the world.
Though we abolished slavery in the 1860's, there are 10 major
countries where slavery is still a way of life, with an estimate of
30,000,000 people still in slavery. India and China are the two main
countries with vast populations and slavery.
In most of the world women are treated as second class citizens,
Asia, Africa, Middle East and even some Latin American cultures treat
women as property, instead of as an equal. I realize that our country
still has improvements that need to be made, but we have come a long
way in our treatment of women.
The Bible is written for the world, not for just, Americans or even
Europeans. The Bible is written to help us deal with the worst of
circumstances, whether it is slavery, imprisonment, or any other abuse
that any of us may have to deal with.
We live a pampered life, here in America. We complain about
food, when in a lot of the world, they are lucky to eat one or two days
a week. We complain about wages, when most of the world only makes
a few dollars a day. Our prisons are filled with pampered prisoners,
that complain about their food and lodging.
Our churches cringe when a smelly homeless person comes through
the doors. People that have tattoos all over their bodies are shunned.
The downtrodden in America are kicked instead of being helped.
I've heard Christians say, that's why we pay the government,
to take care of the needy. That is not the governments responsibility,
they can't even handle their own money, it is the Christians
responsibility to take care of peoples needs, you and I. The government
can never give, that one on one help, that only you and I can give.
Our missionaries live in the worst environments, taking care of
people, and spreading the love of Jesus Christ to people that still have
to deal with slavery, abuse and imprisonment for their beliefs.
We can not continue to try and modernize the Bible to fit America.
We need to realize that the rest of the world is not America, the Bible
was written before America. It is written for the world, where bad still
exists, not just for us, that are spoiled, called Americans.
