For those of you that don't know, Gomer was the unfaithful wife of
Hosea, the prophet of God. God told Hosea to marry a wife of harlotry,
this was to show Israel how much God loved them.
Gomer was unfaithful to Hosea numerous times, but God would tell
Hosea to bring her back home, just as God continually brought the
children of Israel back into arms.
Before you start looking too hard at Israel maybe, The Church, needs
to look in the mirror. The Church has, from the beginning, bickered,
fought, separated, and divided. Much like Gomer, we have wandered
off into other religions, and even adopted some of their philosophies
with our Christian faith.
Some churches have gone so far, as to take not take the all of The
Bible as true for us today, and added their own interpretations and
doctrine and still think of themselves as Christians.
This is what I believe from reading scripture. The Church believes
that The Bible is the inspired word of God. Everything in scripture is
true, and there for our learning and to help us as we teach others about
our God. If we believe anyone over The Bible, we have effectively
made that person a god, above Jehovah God.
To not believe all of The Bible, makes the Bible just another book.
It might be of historical importance, it might even have some great
lessons for us to learn, but if its not 100% true then God is a lier and
why are we wasting our time in Christianity.
While some may pick and choose what they believe in the Bible,
I choose to believe that everything in scripture was inspired by God
though man. I also believe that God made sure everything was written
exactly the way he wanted.
God purposely chose Hebrew and Greek for the original languages
of our Bible, because of the descriptive languages that they both
are, so that, The Bible would be simple to understand. Christianity
is not a hard to understand, but it is difficult to stay on course.
We, as people tend to wander, our focus is not always on the mark.
If we keep our focus on scripture, God, Jesus Christ, and The Holy
Spirit, we can walk the straight and narrow. I know that my eyes and
my mind wander from the things of God and I have to get up, brush
myself off, and get back on the Road to Glory.
Much like Gomer, we look for something better, greener pastures,
a way of life that is easier. Just as Gomer eventually found all that she
wanted was in Hosea's arms, our wandering will lead us back into the
the loving arms of God.
After all, isn't that the best place to be!
