realize our true joy comes from the decisions of our heart. We may have loved
ones that are sick, or in care places. We may have family that we are
struggling with for one reason or another. Our joy, our happiness, is
dependent upon us.
Paul and Silas were beaten, put in stockades, and tossed into a dungeon,
and the joy that they carried in their hearts, caused them to sing. There is
an old song that talks about being discouraged, but that whistling a happy
tune will make it better. Or who can forget Mary Poppins and her spoon full
of sugar to help the medicine go down.
We have the joy of Jesus Christ living with us daily. Does that mean we
should never be discouraged or sad, no. But it does mean that there is always
a spark, an ember, that is glowing inside of us. With a little wind from the
Holy Spirit, that spark, that ember, can ignite into a joyful flame, and that
flame, that warmth, can spread like wild fire to those around us.
How we treat this holiday season is dependent on us.
I pray that all of you will have safe travels. May the joy of our Savior
warm, not only you, but all those that surround you.
