Blushing, the redness of the face from modesty, embarrassment, or
shame, is something that has been lost in our society. The things that
used to cause us to blush, are shown on TV or heard everyday.
I can remember when make-up on the cheeks was called rouge,
because it simulated blushing. Now it is called blush.
Is that because we don't see a natural blush anymore?
I can remember when night gowns and underwear were never seen
on a television screen. I can remember my sister being embarrassed
because she saw a Kotex commercial on TV.
Our children lose their innocence, when sexual innuendoes no longer
cause them to blush. As Christians, look at how we have embraced the
values of this world, from promiscuity to homosexuality and beyond.
Think about it. When was the last time you saw a Christian blush?
What subject was brought up to cause it?
The act of blushing, is an instantaneous effect controlled by our
reaction to a stimuli. Our conscience and our morals, have a direct
affect on our reaction to this stimuli. This reaction gets deadened with
time, as we become accustomed to this stimuli.
The more we are surrounded by crassness, vulgarity, nudity, sexual
innuendoes and the like. The less likely we are to blush, because these
things have become the norm, instead of the abnormal to us. This loss
of innocence can never be retained again, it is lost forever.
We can have an effect in our children's and our grand-childrens lives,
if we can protect their innocence.
Maybe we can even bring the genuine blush back into existence!
