detours. Detours are placed in front of us, to prevent us from getting
hurt. As a truck driver, transportation departments would try and
re-route us to avoid: wrecks, floods, downed lines, broken bridges,
and many other things.
God uses detours in our Christian walk to prevent us from harm,
route us towards someone that He wants us to talk to, or just to
help someone out. We have to be aware of the signs, both driving
and following Christ. Missing a sign, can put us where we don't
want to be.
God detoured Paul from going into Mesopotamia, the reason
is not given, but the detour was plain to Paul. I think, as Christians,
that God will detour us for His benefit, if we let Him.
I find it interesting and perplexing when a Christian relates
about an accident, or some one they saw having trouble, but
they drove on, or walked on by, without assisting. The excuse
is, they didn't want to get involved. I don't know how you can
read The New Testament and have an "I don't want to get
involved" attitude.
The story of The Good Samaritan is about being involved.
Jesus in Matthew 25 talks about the coming judgement and
how those that refused to clothe, feed, visit, give hospitality
would be told," depart from me I now you not." These people
didn't get involved in others lives. They refused to engage in
the lives of others.
Christians are supposed to be engaged in following Christ.
Jesus was engaged in many peoples lives, most importantly,
strangers and those that were hurting.
How can we, as Christians, not be engaged with other peoples
lives. The simple answer is, WE CAN'T.
