As I was in re-hab this morning, after my shoulder surgery, they had me
lay down and gave me a 10 inch medicine ball. They told me to put it on
my right shoulder and roll it around with my left, over the most sensitive
areas of my right shoulder. I was giving myself a message, so basically
they allowed me to hurt myself, instead of them messaging me and hurting
me.
This re-hab therapy got me to thinking about other self-inflicted pain that
I had done to myself or witnessed in the past.
It brought back the only cigarette I ever smoked, and how my lungs
burned as my body coughed uncontrollably to get the smoke out.
It brought back memories of getting drunk and vomiting in a toilet all
night, or better yet watching friends hang onto a toilet all night.
It brought back memories of friends, now gone, that shot up whatever
was handy and easily purchased into their arms and feet. I remember helping
some of them go cold turkey off drugs. That my friends is three to four days
of pure Hell, all of it self-inflicted pain.
It makes me wonder why Christians, allow themselves to be caught up
in these self-inflicted messes we get in. According to surveys, the adultery,
drug, alcohol, suicide, murder, stealing, or most any other sin, happens
close to the same percentages in a church as in the outside world.
To me, that means the outside world has done a better job of infiltrating
our churches than The Lord's Army has of infiltrating the world. We have
people dying of self-inflicted pain in our churches and most people are to
blind to see.
God give us a Spirit of Discernment, so that our eyes will be opened to
those that are hurting around us. Give us the compassion to help. Give us
Your Love, when ours is failing. Help us help others, not only in our
churches, but in our neighborhoods, our cities, our towns. Use us Lord
as you see fit. HERE AM I SEND ME!
