people. One of the jobs that has always fascinated me is the construction industry.
For most of us, it looks like houses get built at an alarming rate, but we only see
the wood frame and the walls go up.
It's the preparation that never gets seen, that makes it possible for the house to
go up so fast. We don't see the architect laying the plans out in drawing after draw-
ing. Receiving phone call, after phone call, can you change this, can you add that
until it's just right. Oh yeah, and meets all the building codes. Drawings for the
excavation and compaction at the site. Drawings for the foundation and the floor
plan. Then you get the drawings for the actual structure.
Today, we are only interested in the foundation. The framing for the concrete
has to be laid out and reinforced to withstand the weight of the cement. The re bar,
metal rods have to be placed and welded up, so the cement can penetrate all around
each rod.
When this is done, the cement can finally be poured. The blend for the cement
has been determined by the type and weight of the structure to go on it. The cement
is poured by truck after truck, so that all of the cement can cure at the same time.
Every part of the cement has been vibrated into every square inch of the form.
It's leveled and floated and allowed to cure until ready, sometimes weeks before
the framing can start. Then you pull the forms and start building the house.
Tomorrow we will see what this has to do with our Lord and Savior, Jesus.
